Web AR is a technology that enables users to access an AR experience using their web browser. Typically, the end user will tap on a link or scan a QR code, which will in turn open a link on their mobile browser where they can access the web experience.

Web AR is the AR platform with the lowest barrier of entry, because it doesn’t require the end user to have a particular mobile app installed, unlike Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram. Often end users can access the experience from a desktop browser, too. This makes the distribution of AR content easier.

Web AR can also easily be integrated into a website journey, making it ideal for online shopping checkout processes. For example, AR might be used for a virtual try-on feature, allowing users to “try on” a product before purchase by using their phone or desktop camera.
